Cables and Wires
I usually don’t take many pictures of buildings and objects. I am more interested in the people I encounter. But since this is a photo blog about the Philippines I also try to include different aspects of the country. Like my billboard series (here), this cables & wires series is something that I wanted to publish in my blog since quite some time. Those cables are a daily sight in most cities of the Philippines. My cables and wires images were photographed in Manila and in Sorsogon.
I am wondering what happens when someone is disconnected because of a damaged cable. How can a technician ever find the defective wire? Or do they just add a new one to the existing ones?
The subject didn’t exactly inspire me nor did I want to create artsy images with this subject. But I am not surprised that artists can find beauty in it. While doing a short research on the Internet I saw, lo and behold, that there is currently an exhibition running in Silverlens Gallery with the theme of “cables”. The photographer is Rachel Rillo and the exhibition is called “Manila”. It seems to be a universal theme since she started her project in the US three years ago. If you are in Manila don’t miss her artistic and poetic black and white pictures of wires. The Exhibition runs until March 8, 2008 at the Silverlens Gallery, 2320 Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City.
